About the role

With our recent acquisition of the Co-operative Bank, we want to build on our progress in sustainability, setting a combined vision for the Group. This is an exciting opportunity to join us as Head of ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance), leading our work in this area.

Reporting to the Group Chief People Officer, you’ll be responsible for developing the Environmental, Social and Governance strategy across the Group. You’ll engage stakeholders, reflect their views in the ESG strategy and ensure that this helps to shape the wider organisational strategy.

Leading a specialist team of ESG professionals, you’ll drive the implementation of the ESG roadmaps that will maintain our great momentum.

You’ll represent the Coventry Building Society and Co-operative Bank externally with regulators, professional bodies and industry forums to ensure insight and influence around our ESG strategy and execution. You’ll leverage your network in the sector and beyond to anticipate future changes and ensure we’re prepared.

About you

Professionally qualified in sustainability, you’ll bring a depth of experience in the ESG field. You’ll be able to demonstrate a track record of developing and delivering plans for change and crucially, measuring the impact of these changes.  

To be successful in this role, it’s essential that you’re able to demonstrate:

  • Strong collaboration and stakeholder management skills, being at ease with building relationships
  • A depth of understanding of regulatory and disclosure requirements, alongside ESG best practice standards
  • Experience of implementing robust systems and processes in place to deliver compliance
  • Ability to shape the scope of and insights shared through external reporting, 
  • A track record of building internal capability, as well as managing third party relationships
  • Exceptional people leadership skills 

Although not essential, it would be desirable if you’re also able to:

  • Demonstrate previous experience of carrying out this role within the financial services sector
