Senior Data Scientist

About The Role

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Data Scientist to join a dynamic and expanding team. The successful candidate will focus on developing our Data Science capability here at the Coventry Building Society within the MI Centre of Excellence. The purpose is to lead complex projects and initiatives, drive strategic decision-making and generate insights & value from the Society’s data using Data Science & Business Intelligence tools, technologies and techniques. As our Senior Data Scientist – some key accountability will include:

  • Working closely with business functions to understand their challenges and opportunities, and coordinate the delivery of solutions in support of member outcomes and the Society’s strategic plan
  • Supporting the team of Data Scientists to develop understanding of programming and Data Science tools and statistical and mathematical techniques, playing a pivotal role to inspire and establish the organisation’s Data Science capabilities
  • Supporting relevant stakeholders through quantitative analytics, and the application of appropriate advanced analytics for the business’s key initiatives
About You

As our Senior Data Scientist, you’ll be reporting to the Senior Data Science Practice Manager. You will have extensive experience in Data Science or advanced analytics, with specialist expertise in all areas of Data Science (i.e. Data Engineering, Mathematics & Statistics, and Data Visualisation). As well as having strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence and gain buy in through key working relationships- you will also have strong Commercial acumen, with the ability to question/ challenge and put forward new ideas. You will also be or have:

  • Extensive knowledge of programming languages (e.g. Python, R, Julia, Perl)
  • Expert in writing freehand SQLagainst both normalised and denormalised data warehouse structures (e.g. via Aginity)
  • Highly numerate with experience in Statistical analysis and regressional modelling
  • A strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, statistics, and machine learning
  • Experienced in using programming tools (e.g. SAS, Matlab, Jupyter), and in using Jupyter Notebooks
  • Experience in data engineering (data profiling and intuition, data Modelling/ wrangling, structured data processing (SQL and ETL) etc…
  • Experience in advanced analytics using Mathematics and Statistics (Statistical modelling, Data Mining, working with AI & deep learning algorithms and large datasets) etc...
  • Experience in data visualisation (data visualisation tools (e.g. Tableau, PowerBI, Excel, Cognos), story-telling and the ability to convey complex ideas simply, and with a clear narrative) etc…
